Areas of Specialty

As a Biblical counselor, we offer individual, couples (inclusive of, but not exclusive to, pre-engagement/pre-marital/marital, as it can also include counseling for friends, siblings, or other peer relationships), and family/group counseling; providing care to God’s children through all stages of development and seasons of life (e.g., childhood, adolescence, adulthood, professional career, marriage, parenting, elder-care, 2nd career, and/or empty-nest).  It is an honor to serve God by strengthening, comforting, and guiding His children through growth challenges and afflictions alike.  Assessing the destructive spiritual forces posed by the enemy, the client, and the world—juxtaposed against God’s gentle whisper of truth—allows us to triage primary and secondary issues, discern opportunities for godly growth, and co-create actionable and sustainable plans with our Great Counselor and His counselee.

We leverage a wide range of psychotherapeutic models for treatment: contrasting and sifting through the various biological, psychodynamic, behavioral, cognitive, humanistic, existential, and social-cultural theories in order to learn and apply what God initially taught us from His Biblical perspective and subsequently offered to all through common grace. Our focus is then to do more than simply manage symptoms of abuse (physical, economic, spiritual, etc.), addiction, grief/depression, eating disorders (anorexia and bulimia), schizophrenia, trauma, or job-stress.  Our ultimate mandate is to lead counselees out of the underlying anger/oppression, trial/temptation, death/despair, guilt/shame, desire/madness, fear/anxiousness, or persecution/meaninglessness that has been well documented and addressed in the Bible.

God has given us the hearts of missionaries to stand ready for working across modalities: meeting clients wherever they are (coming alongside in-person, out-on-the-field, and through virtual sessions) and whenever they need (recognizing that it is never too soon to be comforted and never too late to repent).  Perhaps just as importantly, if not more, we work closely to support secondary clients—enhancing the skills of caregivers, increasing awareness through play therapy, and combating the compassion fatigue of family members (particularly those suffering from the sins of the primary counselee)—a critical component to our work strengthening the overall systems in which they live.  At the same time, we have witnessed the inexplicable work of God through asymmetric counseling (i.e., one-side marriage counseling) as He emphasizes and develops the primary relationship that counselees maintain with Him first and foremost.
